Filastine

Filastine is a global trouble maker in the best possible way. No shows in my neck of woods anytime soon, but he has a new album to be released Jan 2009.  I like his live mix of drums, samples, video, politics, and even dance at times. It is an inspiring mix of freedom and revolution.

the weather undergound

“Memory is a motherfucker,” begins 1960s-era political activist and Weather Underground member Bill Ayers in his 2001 book Fugitive Days. Which is a good read just a story, the fact that it is true makes it all the better. Similar to Ann Hansen’s Direct Action: Memoirs of an Urban Guerrilla, but shorter and with more of a novel feel.

So as long as the republicans keep trying to slander Obama as a terrorist by association becuase he knows Bill Ayers, now is a good time to revisit that bit of history.

I didn’t care for Obama before, but now he has a little cred.

Vancouver 2010 security secrecy

JEFF LEE, Canwest News Service

Published: Tuesday, October 14

Police planners for the 2010 Winter Games are asking permission to ignore requests for information made under the federal Access to Information Act until at least 2012, saying such requests could pose a threat to security.

In the recommendations section, Graham suggested “special (access to information) exemption should be sought to defer requests to at least two years after the 2010 Games. The temporary exemption would help to ensure that the integrity of Games security was maintained.”

Information commissioner Robert Marleau said this week he doesn’t believe the RCMP needs any special exemption since the Access to Information Act already allows for sensitive information to be redacted for national security purposes.

Agencies like the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the Department of National Defence have equally sensitive issues, but comply with the act.

“If CSIS can live with this, and national defence can live with this and we are in a campaign in Afghanistan … why should there be a special exemption for the Olympics?” he asked.

underwhelming elections

so Harper and the Conservative party won another minority government in Canada.

you can see the results on a nice interactive map here.

great. more ‘harmonization’ with the US then. more war. less social services.

not that Canada really tried to change things, as this turnout was a record low in the history of Confederation. what can you say? our system sucks.  can’t we please move beyond ‘capitalist democracy’!

The only bright side to this is that there is more women elected than ever.

lets just do away with wasting money on pretending to be a democracy and admit money is king and we are ruled by a monarchy.

Canada is a constitutional monarchy. Since 1534, when the King of France claimed possession of what is now Canada, the history of our country has been marked by the reigns of an uninterrupted succession of monarchs, both French and British, who have had a significant influence on our country’s development.

you know there is a reason the Queen is on the money, and when land claim issues come up it is  ‘vs. the queen’.

hope you like living in police state.

Mutamassik: “That Which Death Cannot Destroy”

Mutamassik, which means stronghold/ tenacity in arabic, is a producer and dj making what describes as Sa’aidi Hardcore & Baladi Breakbeats: Egyptian & Afro-oriental Roots mixed with the head-nod of hip-hop & the bass and syncopation of hardstep.

Her new work,“That Which Death Cannot Destroy”,  co-produced with her husband Morgan Craft is produced, performed, engineered entirely by mutamassik, and is soon to be released on their label rough americana.

More stripped down and with more noise this album still sounds like the front lines.

morgan craft and mutamassik have their second ‘rough americana’ record due called ‘r.a. due: metallum gravis’

Listen to the tracks at their site.
